A Latin country with Spanish influences

Located in the south of Colombia, the city of Popoya captivates with its blend of Colombian and colonial architecture. Nicknamed the "white city", it boasts colourful churches and charming cobbled squares. Nearby, the archeological sites of San Agustin reveal an ancient sanctuary of pre-Columbian civilization, with 300 megaliths standing proud among waterfalls and wild orchids. While in this part of the country, don't miss the city of Santiago de Cali, with its internationally renowned theaters and carnival.

In the center of the country, you can discover the Colombian capital, Bogota. Set at an altitude of 2,600 metres, its architecture is full of contrasts, combining favelas, futuristic buildings and remnants of the Spanish colonial era. Don't miss the Gold Museum, which boasts one of the largest collections of pre-Columbian gold in South America, or the Botero Foundation, with its works of art paying tribute to the famous Colombian painter. Not far from there, the artist's birthplace, Medellin, opens its doors to you. A veritable cultural center of Colombia, this green city is still known today as the city of eternal spring, thanks to its mild, pleasant climate all year round. You can visit the house where Botero was born, as well as the botanical garden with its beautiful orchidarium.

As you head further north, the landscape changes to mountain ranges. The sierra Santa Marta reveals snow-capped mountains leading straight to the famous Ciudad Perdida. This pre-Columbian city, with its particularly well-preserved remains, is located in one of the world's highest coastal mountain ranges. Off the coast, some 700 kilometers away, the San Andres archipelago is a veritable paradise for visiting tourists. This former pirate lair boasts clear turquoise waters, coral reefs and a wealth of marine life to be discovered during scuba diving or snorkeling. The city of Cartagena is also worth a visit if you're in the north of the country. Here you'll find colonial architecture embellished with bougainvillea and orchids, as well as one of the best-preserved examples of military fortifications on the South American subcontinent. The animal-rich Tayrona National Park is also very popular with visitors for its paradise-like setting.

A pleasant, mild climate

Colombia's proximity to Ecuador gives the country a certain uniformity of temperature. It is thus affected by two distinct seasons: the dry season between December and March, and the rainy season between April and November. The type of climate depends on the regions you visit during your stay: the Amazon has a humid tropical climate, while the latter is fairly harsh at higher altitudes, and almost desert-like in the Guajija region. The best time to discover most of Colombia is during the dry season, although the Colombian vacations between mid-December and mid-January bring a certain number of visitors to the country's major tourist sites.
