Despite its small size, Malta has no shortage of sights to see and visit. The capital, Valletta, with its rich architectural heritage, is a must for all history buffs visiting Malta. Behind its ramparts, the city is home to beautiful limestone buildings that have stood the test of time. In the Collachio district of Vittoriosa, time seems to have stood still, as houses adorned with ornamental door knockers and surrounded by flower gardens seem to have stepped straight out of the past. Malta is also home to prehistoric temples dating back 4,000 years, the origins of which are still the subject of scientific debate. Flagar Qim, Mnajdra or Hal Safliéni, discover these ancient beauties that transcend time. Victoria, Gozo's main town, is a veritable open-air museum. You'll also find centuries-old monuments such as St. George's Basilica and the Armory, which are surprisingly well preserved. After your visit, enjoy a refreshing dip in the Rundle Gardens.
For seaside enthusiasts, Malta offers another way to enjoy a holiday by the sea. Forget long sandy beaches lined with palm trees and deckchairs. Here, beaches have a more authentic feel, with rocks and cliffs often hiding them from prying eyes. In Dwerja, you can sit on the sand to admire the "Azure Window", stroll along the steep cliffs or dive among the rocks. Blue Lagoon, on the island of Comino, is a haven of peace where you can enjoy the pleasures of the water in complete tranquillity. Marsaxlokk, a fishing village and home to Malta's largest port, appeals for its nonchalant charm. Like the Turkish privateers and Napoleon's army before you, let yourself be seduced by the unique charm of this fishing village, which seems to be asleep, so quiet is it.
Malta is an ideal year-round destination, but most holidaymakers plan their trip between April and October. This choice is justified by the fact that Malta best reveals its charms in spring and autumn. During this period, temperatures are mild and sunshine is almost permanent. What's more, rainfall remains low, allowing you to enjoy outdoor activities to the full. Winter is also a great time to travel to Malta. Winter is not as harsh as in other European countries. In the middle of winter, while some European cities shiver under sub-zero temperatures, Malta remains sunny, with mild temperatures often hovering around 10°C.
