Egypt, officially known as the Arab Republic of Egypt, is located in northeast Africa, at the crossroads of the African and Asian continents. The country is bounded by the Red Sea to the east, the Mediterranean Sea to the north, Libya to the west and Sudan to the south. Its vast surface area of 1,001,449 km2 enables it to offer a wide range of holidays and activities to its visitors: beaches such as Sharm el Sheikh, which lies between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, cruises on the Nile, the Arabian and Libyan deserts and the Sinai Peninsula and its oases.
Egypt intrigues travelers with its history and civilization dating back to Antiquity. A past that has left a legacy of archaeological monuments, notably the temples of Luxor and Abu Simbel, the citadel of Cairo, and the pyramids of Giza.
With the country's many tourist attractions, it's only natural that the number of tourists to Egypt should increase over time. Indeed, for 2017, some 12 million visitors are expected, all the more so as the national airline is increasingly present abroad.
As the capital of Egypt, Cairo offers travelers a multitude of things to do. Its main tourist attraction is undoubtedly the Giza plateau, where the sphinx of the same name stands enthroned, and the three main Egyptian pyramids of the three famous Pharaohs of the IV dynasty: Khéphren, Khéops and Mykérinos. A visit to these monuments is a journey back in time to 2,500 BC. As well as taking a tour inside the pyramids and the sphinx, treat yourself to an original sunset over the site. Glowing red, it sets the site ablaze, giving it a more regal ambience with its golden hue.

The climate in Egypt is typically hot and dry all year round, throughout the country. Autumn and spring are the two most recommended seasons to travel in this country. The former runs from late September to late November, and the latter from March to May. During these periods, rain is scarce in the capital and virtually non-existent in the Upper Egypt region. Daytime temperatures are pleasant, fluctuating between 23 and 30°C, especially in Luxor, Aswan and Sharm el-Sheikh.
Since a trip is synonymous with discovery and encounters, don't hesitate to introduce your taste buds to new horizons by sampling traditional Egyptian dishes: Bamiah, Coussa, Hommos and Konafa. To better appreciate the country's cuisine, treat yourself to dinner in one of its restaurants, such as Koshary Abou Tarek, a fast-food establishment located in Cairo.
