The Canaries in brief
The Canary Islands are an archipelago of 7 large islands and multitudes of islets in the heart of the Mediterranean. Many people think that the name Canaries refers to these discreet yellow birds, but this is far from the truth. The name comes from "canariae insulae", meaning the island of dogs. When the first explorers came to this archipelago, they were surprised to see the large dogs that had taken refuge here. They decided to pay tribute to them by naming the land after them. The ideal season for a cruise to the Canaries
