The Manhattan Cruise Terminal is located on the west side of Midtown Manhattan, between 48th and 55th Streets on 12th Avenue (GPS coordinates: 40.7679, -73.9968), just a short distance from the city center.
The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal is located in Red Hook at Pier 12 (GPS coordinates: 40.6815, -74.0106), offering views of the Statue of Liberty.
The Cape Liberty Cruise Port is situated in Bayonne, New Jersey (GPS coordinates: 40.6665, -74.0698), about a 45-minute drive from Manhattan.
From JFK or Newark airports, getting to either the Manhattan or Brooklyn Cruise Terminal typically takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour by car or taxi. Access to the Cape Liberty terminal is especially convenient from Newark, with a drive of about 20 minutes. From Midtown Manhattan, the Manhattan Cruise Terminal is just a short taxi ride or even a 15-minute walk from Times Square. The ride to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes by taxi, while travel to Cape Liberty takes about 30 to 45 minutes.
Each of New York’s cruise terminals offers convenient parking solutions for travelers. The Manhattan Cruise Terminal in Midtown features a secure parking facility directly accessible from 55th Street. Valet services are also available nearby through private providers. The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook has its own adjacent parking lot, generally less crowded, with comparable rates and payment options by card or cash. At Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, a large covered parking garage is available for passengers. It’s designed for long-term stays and does not require prior reservation. Free shuttles transport passengers between the garage and the terminal.
All three terminals are equipped to ensure passenger comfort before boarding. They offer spacious waiting areas, free Wi-Fi, luggage storage, vending machines for snacks and drinks, and ATMs. Porters are also available to assist with luggage. All facilities are accessible to passengers with reduced mobility, and various transportation options (taxis, private shuttles, rideshare services) are available for transfers throughout the city.
The wide variety of itineraries includes captivating stops in the Caribbean (Bahamas, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico), Bermuda, cruises to Canada and cruises in North America, especially to New England. Transatlantic cruises also connect New York with Europe, including Southampton, Hamburg, and Barcelona.
The Manhattan Cruise Terminal mainly hosts ships from Norwegian Cruise Line and MSC Cruises. Norwegian’s modern fleet offers a wide array of onboard activities, such as go-kart tracks, immersive shows, and diverse dining options, making it ideal for families. MSC Cruises appeals to a broad audience with free travel for kids, numerous family-friendly activities, and the MSC Yacht Club, an exclusive area offering spacious suites, dedicated service, and access to private facilities.
The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal is the departure point for Cunard and Princess Cruises. Cunard is renowned for its iconic transatlantic crossings in a luxurious British-style setting. Princess Cruises, a premium American cruise line, offers refined voyages with gourmet dining, Broadway-style shows, and adults-only relaxation areas.
The Cape Liberty Cruise Port in New Jersey serves Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises. Royal Caribbean’s ships feature spectacular entertainment options including surf simulators, water parks, climbing walls, and ice rinks—ideal for memorable family vacations. Celebrity Cruises leans toward modern luxury, with top-tier service, exclusive suites, and private access areas—perfect for couples or families with teens.
The best time for a cruise departing from New York depends on the destination. Cruises to the Caribbean and the Bahamas are especially enjoyable from December through April, offering warm weather and dry conditions, though departures are available year-round. For Bermuda, the season runs from April to November, with peak months between June and August. April–May and September–October are ideal to avoid crowds and enjoy mild weather. Cruises to Canada and New England are popular from late August to October, the perfect time to admire fall foliage. Transatlantic cruises to Europe are generally scheduled in spring and fall, taking advantage of favorable sea conditions and attractive pricing.
Before setting sail, take time to explore New York’s iconic sights. Stroll through Times Square, enjoy panoramic views from the Empire State Building or Top of the Rock, and walk through Central Park, the city’s green oasis. Visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island to dive into America’s immigration history. Art lovers shouldn’t miss the MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, or the Guggenheim. For a unique cultural experience, attend a Broadway musical—an essential part of New York’s identity.
New York is a true culinary melting pot. Sample local specialties like smoked salmon bagels, New York-style pizza, hot dogs, pastrami sandwiches, and the famous cheesecake. For a diverse culinary experience, explore neighborhoods like Chinatown, Little Italy, or Hell’s Kitchen, where you’ll discover flavors from around the world. Pier 57, home to the Market 57 food hall and a rooftop with stunning Manhattan views, is a must-visit for foodies. Finally, don’t miss the electric atmosphere of Broadway—seeing a show is a quintessential New York experience.
