The mining infrastructure is an integral part of Longyearbyen's cultural heritage. During a walk in the town's heights, make a detour to Mine No. 3. Although the mine ceased operations in 1996, it is still possible to explore. Discovered in 1928, this mine produced some 160,000 tonnes of coal every year. Further down, in the center of town, stands a monument to the archipelago's miners. You can also admire a statue of one of these workers. Located to the east of the city, this peaceful valley is the result of the melting of an ancient glacier known as Adventdalen.
