The Norwegian Epic was launched in 2010 at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France. At 1,081.3 feet long, 131.9 feet wide, with 19 decks (including 7 for passengers) and 155,873 gross tons, Norwegian Cruise Line is one of only a handful of cruise lines capable of fitting out such large vessels.
The crew of this imposing vessel numbers 1,690. Its 2,109 cabins can accommodate up to 4,200 passengers. Her crew/passenger ratio is 2.48.
The Norwegian Epic offers cruises in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and the Atlantic. It was voted best cruise ship by Frommer's travel guide for its entertainment. For the current season, passengers can enjoy two specially adapted shows: Burn the Floor and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
In addition to the evening shows, passengers will find on board the largest on-board spa, a multi-sports ground, six bowling lanes, a climbing and abseiling wall, a complete fitness center, an acrobatic course, mini-golf, children's and teenager's playrooms, a nightclub, cinemas, conference rooms, a casino, a theater, a water park (slides, pools and Jacuzzis), an art gallery and many upscale shops.
For their meals, Norwegian Epic passengers have a choice of 14 restaurants. Some are included in the ticket, others require a supplement. Traditional gastronomy is complemented by an all-you-can-eat buffet, takeaways and grills. There are no reserved tables in a restaurant allocated according to cabin category, and no imposed opening hours other than those of the dining rooms.
A complete gastronomic proposal with very different culinary inspirations and atmospheres. The Manhattan, the Taste, the Cucina and the Bistro, to name only the most popular, all have their own identity, but all offer highly refined cuisine and the finest vintages. Hungry during the day or in the middle of the night? Several onboard restaurants and grills deliver anywhere on board, 24 hours a day.
The Norwegian Epic also boasts 18 bars and lounges, including a Starbucks Coffee bar, the Cascade Bar near the casino gaming tables, the Epic theater bar for a drink before the curtain rises, and the Ice Bar for a vodka at room temperature maintained at 10.4°F.
The Norwegian Epic's 2,109 cabins are divided into 97 sq. ft. solo studios, inside cabins (without sea view), outside cabins with balcony and suites. Depending on their category, cabins offer 129, 183 or 215 sq. ft. of perfectly appointed living space. Cabin balconies offer from 32 to 108 sq. ft. of outdoor space.
Suites offer 205, 237, 323, 506 and even 861 sq. ft. of private space, all with balconies overlooking the sea.
75 suites are grouped together in a special area, The Haven, which offers guests an ultra-VIP welcome.
Norwegian Cruise Line is committed to protecting the environment. The company installs exhaust gas scrubbers on the ships in its fleet, and uses an anti-friction coating on its hulls to increase their energy efficiency.
On board, recyclable waste is sorted and compacted, while other waste is incinerated. This perfect waste management has earned Norwegian Cruise Line the Trash Free Seas Alliance label.
