Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) was founded in 1966 by Knut Kloster and Ted Arison. The company originated in Norway but is now headquartered in Miami, USA. From the beginning, NCL focused on ocean cruises, launching its first itineraries in the Caribbean. Thanks to its innovative spirit, the company quickly expanded its destinations to include the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Alaska, Asia, and many other regions worldwide. Today, NCL is one of the global leaders in premium cruises, focusing on unique entertainment facilities such as go-kart tracks and spectacular water slides to offer an unforgettable experience at sea.
The Norwegian Aqua, launched in 2025, inaugurates Norwegian Cruise Line's Prima Plus class. With a passenger capacity of 3,571, a 10% increase over the Prima class ships, this vessel stands out for its expanded public spaces and notable innovations. In addition to retaining popular features like The Drop slide and the multi-level go-kart track, the Norwegian Aqua introduces the Aqua Slidecoaster, a unique attraction that combines a roller coaster and a water slide, offering a new at-sea entertainment experience. The ship also boasts an enlarged Ocean Boulevard, allowing passengers to fully enjoy 360° panoramic views while strolling. Additionally, the Haven complex, reserved for suites, has been expanded to offer extra comfort with improved common areas and optimized accommodation options.
The Norwegian Prima, launched in 2022, inaugurated Norwegian Cruise Line’s new Prima class. Its first sister ship, Norwegian Viva, entered service in 2023. Prima-class ships feature Infinity Beach, a stunning infinity pool with transparent edges located at the rear of the vessels. These ships are true temples of at-sea entertainment, with two dry free-fall slides, The Drop and The Rush, towering 10 decks high. Don't miss the Prima Speedway (or Viva Speedway on Norwegian Viva), a three-level go-kart track, the longest at sea (402 meters), offering breathtaking views and thrilling excitement. The Galaxy Pavilion, a virtual reality game room, offers unique immersive experiences. Kids enjoy age-appropriate clubs. For dining, the ship offers an outdoor Food Hall, Italian restaurant Onda By Scarpetta, and other specialties like Mexican Los Lobos and Indian Tamara. Numerous bars and lounges are also available. Relax with a drink at La Terraza, the Indulge outdoor lounge, or a Starbucks.
The Norwegian Bliss, launched in 2018, is part of NCL's Breakaway Plus class. It features a go-kart track, four pools, 11 hot tubs, and a full-service spa with a sauna and steam room. Kids enjoy the Aqua Park and Laser Tag. For dining, 14 restaurants, including La Cucina and Ocean Blue, delight guests. The ship also houses 16 bars and lounges, including the lively Sugarcane Mojito Bar.
The Norwegian Getaway is a Breakaway-class ship that entered service in 2014 and was renovated in 2020. It offers a variety of activities, including the thrilling “The Plank” attraction, a climbing wall, and a spiral water slide. Relaxation is guaranteed with four pools, a full spa, and the adults-only Spice H20 area. Kids have access to dedicated clubs. The Getaway also offers 28 dining options and a variety of bars, including the Skyy Vodka Ice Bar and the Sugarcane Mojito Bar.
Norwegian Cruise Line stands out for its modern and innovative ships, offering a wide range of fun and immersive activities. The Freestyle Cruising® concept allows passengers to enjoy their vacation at their own pace, without imposed schedules or strict dress codes.
This flexibility extends to dining options, where travelers can choose from various restaurants, such as Cagney’s Steakhouse, the Italian restaurant La Cucina, or Teppanyaki.
The Free at Sea program allows for cruise personalization with perks like beverage packages, specialty dining, and shore excursion credits, offering a tailored experience.
For those seeking a more exclusive cruise experience, the Haven complex offers a private space on board, featuring modern and spacious suites, personalized services such as a dedicated butler, and exclusive access to premium facilities. This environment ensures a high level of comfort and privacy, offering passengers a unique and refined experience.
Norwegian Cruise Line's cruises to the Bahamas and the Caribbean often include a memorable stop at Great Stirrup Cay, a private island located in the Berry Islands in the Bahamas. Passengers can enjoy pristine white-sand beaches, engage in water sports like snorkeling and kayaking, or rent a private cabana for a more exclusive experience. The Silver Cove Retreat area also offers villa rentals and a beach reserved for Haven guests.
Norwegian Cruise Line has won the Best Caribbean Cruise Line award at the World Travel Awards from 2013 to 2023, as well as the Best Europe Cruise Line award from 2008 to 2022. In 2023, it was also recognized by the World Cruise Awards, winning the titles of World's Leading Large Ship Cruise Line and World's Best Cruise Ship Suite for its Three-Bedroom Garden Villa suite in The Haven complex.
Norwegian Cruise Line’s social and environmental commitment
A cruise line mindful of environmental issues, NCL strives to offer greener cruises, a goal attested by its ISO 14001 certification.
Its commitment is based on several key pillars: promoting recycling and liquid and solid waste treatment in line with current standards and integrating green technologies to reduce the ecological impact of its ships, such as exhaust gas purification systems and shore power devices.
Norwegian Cruise Line's cruises to the Caribbean and West Indies, key destinations, offer lush beaches in a tropical setting and remarkable cultural richness. These itineraries include cruises in the Bahamas, particularly at Great Stirrup Cay, a private island reserved exclusively for NCL passengers. At Great Stirrup Cay, passengers can snorkel among lively coral reefs, kayak along the coast, or engage in thrilling experiences such as parasailing and ziplining, offering breathtaking views of the island. Everyone can choose a casual or more dressed-up style according to their preferences, even for events like the “Dressy Casual Night.” NCL also organizes “White Parties,” for which a white outfit is required. Although the dress code is flexible, passengers are asked to follow some rules in dining areas. Swimsuits are allowed at the buffet and outdoor restaurants but must be worn with a shirt or cover-up and shoes. The main dining rooms and specialty restaurants do not accept flip-flops, caps, tank tops for men, and faded or torn jeans. Shorts are only permitted for children under 12. It's recommended to bring warm clothes to deal with the sometimes cool temperatures at sea, even during the day, as well as suitable gear for shore excursions, such as a waterproof jacket and comfortable walking shoes.
Children can board from six months old on Norwegian Cruise Line cruises. However, for cruises with three or more consecutive sea days, the minimum age requirement is 12 months.
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) does not systematically offer special rates for children, except for specific seasonal promotions. However, the company offers a discount for the third and fourth passengers when they share the same cabin as the first-paying passengers. This discount allows families to save when traveling together.
Norwegian Cruise Line offers a loyalty program called “Latitudes Rewards,” which aims to reward passenger loyalty. This program, based on a points system, starts with the first cruise taken with the company. Each night spent on board earns one point, with an additional point granted for each night spent in a Haven suite. By accumulating points, members can access exclusive benefits, such as special offers and onboard discounts. The more points passengers accumulate, the greater the benefits, offering increasingly attractive privileges over the course of their cruises.
