In conclusion, Rivages du Monde is the top choice for lovers of art, history, and geography. It is a reputable company offering an intellectual and serene getaway, ideal for discovering the world in good company.
This is the company’s core strength. It is specifically designed for those who wish to travel to the far corners of the world (Asia, the Arctic, South America) without ever having to worry about translation. On board, the menus, the lectures, and especially the guided excursions. It offers absolute comfort for those who do not speak English.
Rivages du Monde appeals to curious travelers who want to give meaning to their journey. It targets those who cannot imagine a port of call without understanding its context. Thanks to the consistent presence of top-tier lecturers (historians, naturalists) on board, passengers come to enrich themselves intellectually and deepen their knowledge of the countries they visit.
The company appeals to those who seek to escape crowds and anonymity. With ships often accommodating fewer than 180 passengers (and sometimes fewer than 100 on rivers), it caters to travelers who hate waiting in line and prefer a “club-like” atmosphere where the crew quickly learns your name and preferences.
The atmosphere on board is relaxing. There are no noisy casinos, water slides, or aggressive commercial entertainment. It is therefore the preferred choice of a mature clientele who wish to travel comfortably, at a leisurely pace, surrounded by people who share their interests, chatting over a drink in the panoramic lounge.

Here is a compilation of the most popular tips from our customers, 100% reliable, to enhance your onboard experience
The first trips take place on the Danube, Volga and Vltava rivers, to discover the great river cities of Moscow, St Petersburg, Munich, Vienna, Bucharest and Munich. Destinations diversify when the company offers river and sea cruises in Burma, China, Canada or Patagonia. Today, ships sail the Mekong River in Southeast Asia, the Irrawaddy River in Burma and the St. Lawrence River in Quebec. Various commercial operations have been the driving force behind the company's economic development. Rivages du Monde takes over the activities of the Russian group Mondotours in 2010, to better position itself on the Russian market. In 2010, Rivages du Monde is also buying Athenaeum's premium river cruises. This operation gives it a more advantageous position on the luxury cruise market. As part of its expansion, the Rivages du Monde cruise company is also acquiring Louis Cruises' French subsidiary. The company's latest acquisition concerns TAAJ Cruises, a company specializing in maritime cruises that filed for bankruptcy in 2014.
Positioning and key figures
Rivages du Monde offers boats on a human scale, the opposite of traditional large ocean liners. Its fleet includes 27 boats that meet the same requirements, in particular the warm atmosphere and friendliness between passengers and above all the travel comfort. Each ship has a capacity of between 65 and 500 passengers. To ensure the comfort and pleasure of the traveller, ships adopt a unique design such as the R/V Paukan, attached in Burma, which stands out for its teak wood interior. The R/V Mékong Prestige also has a refined interior. The cabins of Rivages du Monde ships are equipped with large windows and bay windows for a better view of the landscape. Luxury suites and cabins are also available to travellers, with bar, lounge, library, swimming pool, sauna or spa, fitness or cinema rooms.
Rivages du Monde also promotes cultural cruises. Each trip is oriented towards the historical and cultural discovery of places to visit. Cruise passengers can ask questions to speakers or accompanying specialists, such as naturalist Jean-François Vinciguerra, an expert on the Arctic and Antarctic. Rivages du Monde offers an exclusively French-speaking service.
Main ships
Rivages du Monde serves the Danube with its three ships M/S Amadeus Brilliant, M/S Amadeus Elegant and M/S Amadeus Royal. The Amadeus M/S Class ships have approximately the same configurations, including a length of 360 ft (110 m) and a width of 36 ft (11.4 m), 67 exterior cabins on 3 decks that have either a "French balcony" if they are located on the Upper and Panorama decks, or a window for the main deck cabins. All cabins have a very modern design and are very well equipped, including a bathroom, shower, TV, telephone, safe and individual air conditioning. The suites have a minibar and a lounge area. The restoration room of the M/S Amadeus ships is decorated with large bay windows. On each ship's Sun Deck, play areas and deckchairs are installed. Passengers can also enjoy wellness moments in the gym, hairdresser's salon or massage salon.
Rivages du Monde also offers cruises on the M/S Astoria ship. With a capacity of 500 passengers, this boat combines the charms of old cruise ships with the comfort of a modern ship. The M/S Astoria is suitable for coastal sea cruises. It is 524 ft (160 m) long and has 7 bridges. The cabins are classified into 9 categories with a surface area ranging from 129 to 193 sq ft (12 to 18 m²). In accordance with the company's tradition, the cabins offer the best comfort, particularly in terms of equipment: bathroom, TV, minibar and safe, among others. In-flight entertainment is provided in the various leisure and relaxation areas such as the sauna, Olissipo restaurants, the Lous buffet and the shop with tax-free items and a wellness area.
Cruise passengers passing through Burma can board the R/V Angkor Pandaw before discovering the Mekong River and its surroundings. This river flows through Southeast Asia, on the border of Laos and Burma. The 138 ft (42 m) long Angkor Pandaw R/V has a shallow draught for optimal travel comfort. For an intimate cruise, the R/V Angkor Pandaw offers 32 cabins with a refined design. They are equipped with double beds. The interior of the boat is covered with exotic wood. To enjoy a moment of conviviality, passengers can join the bar, which is extended by a terrace opening onto the outside. The shop offers artisanal products.
Main destinations served by the company
Rivages du Monde has several itineraries in Europe, Asia and Patagonia. In Europe, river cruises on the Danube are among the most popular offers. This trip allows you to cross 8 countries and discover several sites in a single cruise. Germany, Hungary, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia and Austria are on the routes. The company also offers river cruises on the Volga, Europe's longest river. It is an opportunity to discover Russian culture and part of the culture of Central Europe. In summer, ships cross the Vltava River and pass through Prague and Dresden. In Scotland, Rivages du Monde offers sea cruises crossing the castles that have made the country famous.
In Southeast Asia, cruises on the Mekong River are ideal to immerse yourself in a new culture through stopovers in a few authentic villages. Shores of the World also skim the waters of the Burmese Irrawaddy River. The stopovers are an opportunity to meet the locals and visit the monuments that make the country so special, such as temples and secular pagodas. To visit Patagonia, travellers board the Stella Australis ship. The trip includes pneumatic canoe expeditions to discover the glaciers.
