Cruises Croatia : Offers and promotions 2026 - 2027

A country with a rich and eventful history

Croatia is a country in south-eastern Europe, stretching from the eastern edge of the Alps to the Adriatic Sea. It is surrounded by Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro. A member of the European Union, the country also has a maritime border with Italy.

The country has always been at the crossroads of four major cultural areas: Slavic at the end of the 6th century, Venetian on the Dalmatian coast, Austro-Hungarian and pre-Roman. Present-day Croatia is the heir to the independent medieval Croatian kingdom. The country came under Hungarian rule in 1102, before joining the Habsburg lands in 1527, which became Austria-Hungary between 1867 and 1918. At the same time, Dalmatia came under Venetian rule in the early 15th century, followed by French rule between 1809 and 1814. Between 1918 and 1941, Croatia became a centralized kingdom under a Serbian dynasty, the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. The latter became the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1929, before the country was invaded by Third Reich troops in 1941. Resistance was then organized under the command of Tito, and the Socialist Republic of Croatia became a state of the Federative People's Republic of Yugoslavia between 1945 and 1963, then of the Socialist People's Republic of Yugoslavia between 1963 and 1990. Following the collapse of the USSR, Croatia gained independence in 1991. Affected by violent internecine wars, the country is now a peaceful, tourist-oriented territory that has gained a certain notoriety in recent years by hosting the filming of Game of Thrones, the hit series.

Learn more about your Croatia cruise

Admire a land of many influences

Dubrovnik, known as the Pearl of the Adriatic, is one of Croatia's most popular tourist destinations. This museum town is one of the most beautiful in the world, with its pink-tiled houses, palaces, ramparts and Slavic culture. In recent years, specialized tours have been organized here to discover the major filming locations of the Game of Thrones series for fans of the series. Further afield, the Mojet National Park offers an opportunity to appreciate the lakes and rocky mountains close to Montenegro. Nearby Korcula is a particularly well-preserved old town. Occupied by various civilizations over the centuries, the village boasts architecture that combines Slavic and Mediterranean cultures.

Split is one of Croatia's other major tourist attractions. It boasts a unique city center set in the remains of Diocletian's palace. Don't miss the cathedral and its campanile, or the Peristyle, the city's nerve center. Off the coast, the island of Hvar is surely one of the most beautiful Croatian islands. Here, you can admire typical villages set amid lavender and pine fields, surrounded by coves and pleasant beaches. Less well known are the villages of Trogir, Sibenik and Zadar, with their interesting religious heritage. Zagreb may not have the charm of Dubrovnik or Split, but it is not lacking in interest. The Austro-Hungarian-built city boasts a blend of neoclassical and Art Nouveau architecture, with narrow cobbled streets. Not far away, the town of Opatija features the same recent style. Ravinj, the jewel of the Istria region, allows you to admire a Euphrasian basilica before visiting the various hilltop villages that surround this part of Croatia.

Pleasant, mild weather all year round

Due to its geographical location, Croatia is crossed by a wide range of climates, which vary according to the region you're visiting. Inland, you'll enjoy a continental climate with hard, snowy winters and hot, stormy summers. By contrast, the coastal climate is Mediterranean, with mild winters and hot, dry summers. At this time of year, the average sea temperature is 26°C. The Hora wind from the northwest and the Jugo wind from the south, however, modulate these conditions. The off-seasons are the most pleasant times to discover Croatia, particularly between May and September, despite the strong influence of tourists between July and August.
